Honeybee Meeting
Ever thought of getting honeybees but didn’t know where to start. Well here is your chance to learn about them and get some help on starting a hive or two.
At 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Glencoe Fire Department there will be a meeting for current bee keepers and anyone interested in learning more about honeybees.
A film will be shown on “Getting Started in Beekeeping”.
After the film current bee keepers will answer questions you might have and will also discuss what they have going on with their hives.
If you haven’t heard our bee numbers are decreasing due to parasites, diseases and pesticides.
Bees are very important for our food supply and without them we would not have all the fruit and vegetables that we all love to eat.
So come join us and see if beekeeping is for you.
For more information you can call the Payne County Extension Center at 405-747-8320
RD News
The Payne County Extension office is working to establish a new Payne County Home-Based Business Association.
If you are a home-based business owner and would like to be a part of this group, please consider attending our first meeting at noon Jan. 26 in the county administration building in Stillwater.
The agenda for this first meeting will be to organize the group. For example, members will need to set regular meeting times and places and to determine what kinds of educational programs they would like to have for the upcoming year.
At the Micro Business Resource Fair and Conference held in October, several home-based business owners expressed an interest in forming an association that would have two distinct purposes.
First, the association would provide a networking opportunity where home-based business owners could come together and talk about their concerns, experiences, etc.
Second, the association would be a source of continuing education for these business owners. Oklahoma State University has a myriad of educational resources available to business owners, including a faculty member who is a specialist in home-based business.
For home-based business owners, this is a great opportunity to participate in the development of this new program designed specifically by you and for you.
Anyone with an interest is welcome to attend the organization meeting, but an RSVP would be greatly appreciated.
Just call or e-mail the Extension office at 405-747-8320 or suzette.barta@okstate.edu.
