Hoffman family nuts about pecans

RIPLEY, Okla. — Pecans have been good to the Hoffman family, and the Hoffman family has been good for pecans.

Dick and his wife, Jean Hoffman bought 60 acres east of Stillwater in the early 1960s. Some pecan trees came with the purchase and he added 60 more.

Today, Hoffman Pecan Farms covers 164 acres, and more than 1,000 pecan trees, producing more than 100 varieties of paper-shell and native pecans. The farm produces 100,000 pounds of cracked and shelled pecans annually from their nut house.

“This is really quite an operation,” Payne County Agent Nathan Anderson said. “It’s a family operation, and it takes them all to run it. It’s taken a lifetime to build it.”
