Humans celebrate 70th anniversary

Maynard and Wilma Human of Stillwater celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary Saturday, June 28, 2014, with a come-and-go reception at Williams Fellowship Hall in Stillwater’s First Christian Church.

The fun affair with whimsical decor was hosted by their family. The Stillwater Pipe Band played the bagpipes and drums in full uniform.

A large screen at the celebration showed the couple’s Oriental-style garden, along with Wilma Human’s projects and paintings.

They were married June 24, 1944, at the Free Will Baptist Church in Jennings. Wilma was from Yale and Maynard’s hometown was Stillwater. They were both born in Payne County.

Maynard Human operated ships during World War II.

After the war, he worked at the Stillwater Fourth Street Power Plant. In 1952, he was employed by Western Farmers Electric Cooperative of Anadarko where he was chief of power generation for many years. During his final eight years of service, he was the general manager. During his tenure of 32-plus years, 10 generating units were built including six in Anadardo, three in Mooreland and one in Hugo. He retired in 1984 and returned to Stillwater, farming for many years in Payne County.

Wilma Human was a domestic engineer and held many titles throughout the years. She wrote a history of her family and did extensive research on other related lines. She also wrote two books of poetry.

The Humans have traveled to all the states and several foreign countries.  They made three trips to Europe and two cruises of Hawaii and the Caribbean.

They have two daughters – Kaye was born in 1947 in Stillwater and Sue was born in 1954 in Anadarko. Kaye attended college at the University of Oklahoma and Sue attended college at Oklahoma State University.  Football games at their house can be quite interesting.

The Humans have four granddaughters (one deceased), four great-granddaughters and one great-grandson.
