Katherine Stocking wed Donald Wagner on Sept. 14, 1963, in New York. The Stillwater couple is celebrating 50 years of marriage this weekend.
Don Wagner came from Ohio to Cornell University in New York where his bride-to-be was from. They met at Cornell University where he received a doctorate’s degree in animal science and she received a bachelor’s degree in nursing. In 1965, he joined Oklahoma State University and they moved to Ethiopia, Africa, for three years where he worked for the Truman Administration’s Point IV program. They moved to Stillwater in 1968 where he researched beef cattle nutrition and later was named head of the animal science department, retiring after 42 years of service. He continues to work with his cattle on his farm.
Kay Wagner was employed at Stillwater Medical Center and Stillwater home health center, practicing as a nurse for more than 45 years. She received her master’s in administration at OSU. She is retired, but keeps busy volunteering and staying active in many organizations.
The Wagners are members of St. John’s Catholic Church in Stillwater. Their children are Michelle Wagner of Falls Church, Va., Mitch Matthews and Janelle Wagner Matthews of Oklahoma City, and Scott and Tracy Wagner of Tulsa. They have four grandchildren: Natalie and Alena Suziedelis of Falls Church, Va., and Jackson and Addi Wagner of Tulsa.
