Dale and Barbara (Hatter) Himes, Stillwater, will celebrate their 50th anniversary with a family get-together from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. June 28 in the home of their daughter.

They were married June 21, 1959, in the Coyle-area home of her parents before the Rev. Faye Wheeler of Friends Chapel.

They have two children, Greg Himes of rural Stillwater and Debra Hall and her husband, Jeff, of Stillwater. They have four grandchildren, Jeremy Himes, Kristopher Himes, Joshua Allen and Julianne Hall, all of Stillwater.

Himes had a 45-year career in the newspaper profession. He worked as a reporter at the Lafayette (La.) Daily Advertiser, Blackwell Journal-Tribune, Bartlesville Examiner-Enterprise and the Donrey Media Group’s Washington, D.C., bureau. He was managing editor of the Okmulgee Daily Times, Frederick Daily Leader, Guthrie Daily Leader and Edmond Sun. He also served as general manager of the Guthrie paper.

He retired in March 2008 from the NewsPress as city editor and business editor, ending a 22.5-year career at the newspaper.

An artist, Mrs. Himes painted a 9-foot-by-13-foot mural of Noah’s ark in the nursery of First Christian Church of Guthrie and murals of animals in other rooms of the children’s department. She enjoys oil painting, her grandchildren and working in her lawn and garden.

She is retired from the NewsPress, where she was the librarian.
