Stillwater graduate and Las Vegas performer Darla Z tapes nationally televised concert

STILLWATER, Okla. — A former Stillwater resident and current Las Vegas performer took the stage to tape a nationally televised concert Thursday.

Darla Zuhdi, who graduated high school in Stillwater in 1981, said she was excited about the taping.

“I revel in it,” said Zuhdi. "I love this stuff. I’m very excited. I’m honored to have the opportunity and I’m humbled that it’s of interest to people and that they love the kind of music I love.”

Zuhdi said she loves the “old music” that talks of love and the truisms of life. She has opened for artists such as Willie Nelson and Wayne Newton.

The concert at South Point Casino in Las Vegas was originally a regular performance for Zuhdi, until a month ago when she had the idea for a taped concert. Through her contract with Goliath Promotions, which is distributing the show, the performance will be televised. According to Zuhdi’s website, “Darla Z Live from Las Vegas” will air on AMGTV, a nationally syndicated network, Dish Online, FetchTV in the UK, Simpozia Online, and Veoh. She said the concert will also be shown on Punch TV.

The show filmed Thursday at 4:30 p.m. She said the entire show taping would take three hours.

In addition to the concert, a camera crew followed her around for a behind-the-scenes look at what went into preparing for the taping.

“I guess they want to see what I do when I get up,” said Zuhdi, laughing. “I don’t know what’s so exciting about that.”

While she isn’t sure when the show will air, she was told it may be November or December. Despite the pressure, Zuhdi said she was not nervous.

“It’s actually kind of a relief, because if you mess up, you get to film it again,” said Zuhdi. “So I’m less nervous than a normal live show.”

The Stillwater graduate had received an invitation to attend her high school reunion, which was being held on the same day as the performance.

“If I had to miss it, this is a good excuse,” said Zuhdi.

“I love the high energy stuff,” he said. “Even though it’s country, being able to rock it up, distorted guitars and just seeing the crowd, feeding off of that.”
