QUICK 5: Cimarron Breeze Concert Series starts up on April 26

STILLWATER, Okla. — Monica Taylor Johnson is known as the Cimarron Songbird and hosts the Cimarron Breeze Concert Series.

1 What is the Cimarron Breeze Concert Series?

The Cimarron Breeze concerts are monthly ticketed shows featuring the best in folk, bluegrass, roots, Americana music . . . and Red Dirt. The Songwriters Showcases are concerts held most months featuring regional acts.

Both concert series are in the old Methodist church that sits amongst a dozen other territorial era structures in the Oklahoma Territorial Plaza on the north side of Perkins.

An artist interview is at 6:45 p.m. The shows begin at 7 p.m. and end by 9:30-10 p.m.

2 How did the Cimarron Concert Series start?

David Sasser, owner of the Perkins Tag Agency and The Perkins Journal, approached me last year about booking a series of concerts and hosting the shows in the Old Church Center.

KICKER designed the sound system for the building to host concerts and Wilson Electric created professional lighting.  I called up folks that I knew and have played with across the country. We’ve had Claire Lynch’s bluegrass band, Kevin & Dustin Welch, John Fullbright, Byron Berline to name a few. I travel and play music for a living, so it’s a juggling process for me ... but I love hosting these shows!
