Rebecca te Velde to present organ concert in Stillwater

STILLWATER, Okla. — Organist Rebecca te Velde will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church, Sixth and Duck, playing the music that she is taking to Germany for four performances in June.

The hour-long recital will feature music from the 17th through 21st centuries. Composers include Dieterich Buxtehude, J.S. Bach, Tulsa organist/composer Michael Bedford, Hermann Schroeder, Maurice Duruflé and the performer’s father, Lester H. Groom. Some pieces are free-style while some are hymn-based. All but the first piece represent seasons in the church year such as Christmas, Easter and Pentecost.

Admission is free and the concert is open to the public. Although the organ console is not visible from the pews, the audience will be able to watch the performer’s hands and feet via video projection to a screen. A reception in the church’s Hospitality Area will be held immediately following the concert.

Te Velde has served as organist at First Presbyterian Church since 1991 and has been an adjunct instructor for music at Oklahoma State University since 1999.

She earned the M.Mus. in Organ Literature and Performance at the University of Western Ontario, and the B.A. in Music from Seattle Pacific University, where she studied with her father.

She is certified as an Associate of the American Guild of Organists

and is dean of the Cimarron AGO chapter. She has concertized in the U.S., Canada and Europe, and has published original organ and choral compositions with Oxford University Press, Darcey Press, and Santa Barbara Music Publishing.
