STILLWATER, Okla. — Cody Whittenburg is the director of this summer’s community musical at Town & Gown Theatre. Open auditions are Monday and Tuesday.
1 What play is Town & Gown featuring for the summer?
Town & Gown is presenting “Legally Blonde: The Musical,” based on the 2001 film with blonde-haired Elle Woods enrolling at Harvard Law School to win back her ex-boyfriend and learning a lot more than she ever imagined. Performance dates are June 18-22 and 25-29. Tickets are $14 and $12 for students and for seniors during the Sunday matinee. Call 405-372-9122 to reserve a seat.
2 What kinds of people act in Town & Gown plays?
Town & Gown actors are everyday members of the community with varied experiences and diverse interests. They work for a few weeks to create art on stage together. Whether you’re brand new to theater, you’re a seasoned professional, or you’re somewhere in between, you’ll find a home at T&G.
3 How do you get involved in Town & Gown?
T&G volunteers are regular people with “real” lives who volunteer their time for the love of the arts, the friendships and the fun of entertaining our community. The best way to get involved is simple: Just show up. Contact T&G or just walk in — opportunities exist on and off stage.
4 Who is eligible to audition for the play?
Anyone is eligible — men/women of all ages. The process is easy. Sing anything (nobody else watches), read lines aloud and dance a short dance we teach you (as a group). Just come to the theater at 3524 S. Perkins Road at 6:30 p.m. on Monday or Tuesday— ditch the nerves — and bring a friend!
5 What can actors expect in the musical?
We rehearse; we perform! An evening rehearsal schedule is built around cast conflicts with rehearsals beginning in late April. You can expect to make new friends, to have a sense of community, to learn, to make memories, and to have a blast in a fun, supportive and relaxed atmosphere.
