UPDATE: Former Stillwater Police Department officer waives right to preliminary hearing

STILLWATER, Okla. — Former Stillwater Police Department Sgt. Tom McConaghy waived his rights to a preliminary hearing and a trial court arraignment within 30 days during his initial appearance in Payne County District Court Friday afternoon.

McConaghy is charged with larceny of a controlled dangerous substance. Special Judge R.L. Hert set bail at $5,000. McConaghy's district court arraignment is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Sept. 13 before District Judge Phillip Corley. McConaghy has posted bail.

He is accused of taking prescription painkillers from the Police Departments prescription drug disposal vault

If convicted, McConaghy faces a 10-year prison sentence and/or a fine of up to $10,000.
