BREAKING NEWS: Highway Patrol reports two killed in traffic accident west of Perkins

PERKINS, Okla. — The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is reporting  two people have been killed in a wreck shortly before noon Tuesday on State Highway 33, approximately 7 miles west of Perkins.

OHP Trooper Clay Fredrickson said a preliminary investgation reveals the semi was traveling west on S.H. 33 and a car was traveling east. The car veered into the semi's path. The driver of the semi attempted evasive action, but the vehicles collided head-on.

The car caught fire. Two people in the car are dead. The driver of the semi is being treated for minor injuries, Fredrickson said.

S.H. 33 approximately a quarter mile west of Cottonwood Road, seven miles west of Perkins is closed. Traffic is being diverted, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

The highway patrol, Perkins police and Payne County deputies responded to the accident. Stillwater and Coyle firefighters responded to the accident.
