STILLWATER, Okla. —
Mike Dicks, a longtime member of the Stillwater Board of Education, announced his resignation during Tuesday’s meeting at the Administration Building.
“This is my last meeting,” said Dicks, who served on the board in many capacities for 12 years. His resignation is effective July 1.
Dicks recently retired after 24 years as an agricultural economics professor at Oklahoma State University. Dicks said he has taken a position as director of economics for the American Veterinary Medical Association in Chicago.
“I’d much rather live here, but I need a new job that’s challenging,” Dicks said. “I need to do something different.”
The board will seek a replacement for Dicks, who represents Ward 1 in southeast Stillwater. Dicks has approximately 2 1/2 years remaining on his five-year term.
Superintendent Ann Caine said the vacancy will be posted after July 1.
“Anyone who is interested in Ward 1, they can apply and there will be an application process,” Caine said. “The board will set up a special date, they will interview from that pool of candidates and they will appoint someone to fill out the remaining 2 1/2 years of Dr. Dicks’ term.”
