Cushing man accused of murder released on bail

STILLWATER, Okla. — A 97-year-old Cushing man accused of murdering his great-granddaughter was released from jail yesterday.

Russell Eugene Dawes posted a $25,000 bond on Tuesday.

The Payne County District Court originally held Dawes in December with no bail.

An affidavit on Dec. 6 documents Dawes telling police that he shot her in his rural Cushing home in the 400 block of South Agra Road. Dawes called Cushing Funeral Home Director Roger Floyd, who was the first person on the scene on Dec. 5 at 9 a.m.

Soon after police found the relative covered with blood in a back room. She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to court records.
