BREAKING NEWS: Stillwater Parade of Lights canceled

STILLWATER, Okla. — The Stillwater Christmas Parade of Lights has been cancelled because of inclement weather. The parade was scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday in downtown.

The Stillwater Christmas Parade of Lights committee announced the cancellation Thursday afternoon.

A committee press release states "We are extremely disappointed that the weather in Stillwater caused this chance, but the helth and safety of those attending and working at these outdoor events must come before any celebrations."

The Stillwater Christmas Parade of Lights will not be rescheduled. However, floats built for the parade may be displayed on Dec. 14 in the parking lot on the southeast corner of Ninth Avenue and Lewis Street between 10 a.m. and noon.

"We are deeply grateful for the enthusiasm of so many people who have given so much to make this parade a success. We look forward to a great 2014 Stillwater Christmas Paraade of Lights," according to the release.

The Sherrar Museum's holiday open house and holiday card exhibit opening scheduled for 5 p.m. Thursday also has been canceled.

The Stillwater Junior High and High School wrestling duals at Shawnee also have been canceled. It was unknown if those duals will be rescheduled.
