VIDEO: CREC receives agribusiness award

STILLWATER, Okla. — Central Rural Electric Cooperative received the Agribusiness of the Year award from the Stillwater Chamber of Commerce last week at the agriculture appreciation banquet.

CREC Chief Executive Officer David Swank said he was honored to receive the award on the company’s behalf.

“I think I would say we are humbled by it,” Swank said. “It’s great to be recognized by your peers, especially when you are talking about the agriculture sector which is our roots.”

The organization will be celebrating its 75 year anniversary later this year. Swank said after all that time CREC is perhaps the fastest growing cooperative in the state of Oklahoma and possibly the nation.

“We are talking about possibly doubling our size in the next few years in regards to overall growth with the oil and gas sector,” Swank said.

Swank said the success of CREC lies in the employees that are hard working and committed to CREC and it’s goals.

“We’ve got employees that are second to none,” Swank said. “They speak a lot about not just leadership but servant leadership.”

That leadership will be invaluable as CREC continues to try to stay at the front of the industry and faces new problems in the market. Swank said the goals of CREC remain the same in the face of challenges.

“Ultimately, to try to make certain that we meet the expectations of our members, which is affordable rates and reliable service,” Swank said.

CREC recently partnered with Oklahoma State University to form the National Energy Solutions Institute and Smart Energy Source to help both the industry and the consumer.

“(It’s) really all about how do we as an industry do a better job of collaborating with everyone who’s involved – find ways to bring together collective intelligence from everyone so that we can bring about solutions that ultimately are solutions that benefit our members and continue to position the cooperative in a very strong way,” Swank said.

Swank said he is thankful that CREC is recognized for their efforts and hopes that the award is just a sign that things at the company are being done right.
