Business watch: Stillwater broadcaster Bill Van Ness honored

STILLWATER, Okla. — Stillwater broadcaster Bill Van Ness recently received the Citizen Recognition Award from the Stillwater City Council.

Van Ness was the first person to be selected to receive the award.

Van Ness has provided area news, sports and live on-air interviews for the past 14 years so area residents can know what is going on and have better understanding of the issues and topics that affect Stillwater and the surrounding communities.

Mayor John Bartley said this award is a simple way to appreciate and recognize area residents who show leadership and dedication and have made superior contributions that improve the community.

Van Ness received a certificate at the Aug. 20 Stillwater City Council meeting.

Large donation

to Habitat

The management company Campus Crest apartments, Stillwater public schools, Oklahoma State University and North American Van Lines recently collaborated to give the Stillwater Habitat for Humanity ReStore its largest donation ever.

Campus Crest donated household items, including refrigerators, microwaves, dishwashers, washers, dryers and furniture, to ReStore in June. The items were removed from The Grove, formerly Campus Park, apartment complex during a remodel, ReStore Manager Jennifer Dault said.

“We estimated the value of the donation to be well over $100,000 in ReStore value,” Dault said.

The donation brought challenges. ReStore needed approximately 40,000 square feet to store the donated items.

The Stillwater Board of Education donated space at Cimarron Plaza, which it had recently purchased with the intention to eventually raze the buildings to make room for an athletic complex.

Oklahoma State University students, the Felllowship of Christian Athletes and a North American Transfer employee volunteered manpower and a semi-truck to move the donated items.

The donated materials are available for purchase through the ReStore. Store hours are Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

For more information about Stillwater Habitat for Humanity or to volunteer, call the Habitat office at (405) 377.0403 or ReStore at (405) 372-8100.
