Shinn at 3 p.m.: Execution key to any defense

The Norman Transcript

NORMAN — There's been a lot of talk about defensive coordinator Mike Stoops simplifying the defense this season. Middle linebacker Tom Wort laughs at that.

"It’s a different defense, but it’s still a Division I playbook. It’s as simple as you want to make that. It’s a Division I defense. It has its intricacies," he said. "You can have any scheme, but if you don’t execute, it’s not going to work."

Stoops said the defense might be different this year, but it won't be a remedial version of his scheme.

"You can only simplifying things to a point here. Your players have to be able to go out and execute those things, too," he said. "There's a fine line."
