NCAA Division I Baseball Stillwater Regional: Cowboys crush Cal State Fullerton 13-7

STILLWATER, Okla. —

The Oklahoma State Cowboys were going against a pitching staff in the Cal State Fullerton Titans that only allowed a little over two runs per game. The Cowboys got after Cal State Fullerton’s pitcher early and a triple play in the third inning pushed OSU to a 13-7 victory over Cal State Fullerton and a spot in the regional championship.
“We did a great job offensively against a tremendous pitcher,” OSU coach Josh Holliday said. “I thought we continued to be competitive throughout the game scoring five consecutive innings to finish. Jon (Perrin) gutted one out for us.”
The Titans (33-23), trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the third, looked like they were going to get some of those runs back as Timmy Richards reached on an error by Walton and Clay Williamson was hit by a pitch. With a 1-2 count, both runners were going on the pitch. Perrin caught a line drive with both runners already at the next bag. He threw to Walton for a second out and Walton threw to Krietemeier to complete a triple play — OSU’s first since 2012.
“Being able to go out there and throw up a zero after we scored was huge,” Perrin said.
Oklahoma State (47-16) used a two-out rally in the third to take the lead. Bryan Case got the Cowboys first hit of the game with a double to right-center. Saulyer Saxon hit a slow dribbler to shortstop and reached sending Case to third. Donnie Walton hit a grounder through the first base side, that rolled into right field for a RBI double. Tanner Krietemeier followed with a line drive double to left that scored Saxon and Walton. Perrin said getting the early lead was nice.
“It definitely helps me out,” Perrin said. “It allows me to pitch with a lead and that’s what we want. I was able to get us through as many innings as I could, the offense kept scoring and picking me up.”
