Enid sees retail sales go up for May/June

ENID, Okla. — Retail sales were up in several northwest Oklahoma communities in late May and early June, according to Oklahoma Tax Commission reports released this week.

Net taxable sales were up $1,917,774 in Enid, when compared to sales reported in July 2013. The increase amounted to a 2.6 percent increase in sales tax revenue for the city.

“I’m very pleased to see it. I think an uptick like that in the summer months is a very strong sign,” Enid City Manager Eric Benson said. “I’m still, and will remain, encouraged by the economy of Enid.”

Enid received $2,696,701 this month, for sales occurring in late May and estimated sales for the first half of June.

In Medford, the Grant County seat, there was a 10.6 percent increase in revenue and a $176,469 increase in net taxable sales.

Reports for Alva, located in Woods County, showed there was a 16.4 percent increase in revenue. Net taxable sales were up $1,734,159.

Woodward, in Woodward County, had an 8.3 percent increase in revenue and an increase of $2,396,427 in net taxable sales.

Reports for four county seats showed decreases in sales, when compared to reports from July 2013.

Cherokee, in Alfalfa County, had a 47.5 percent decrease in revenue, year over year. Net taxable sales were down $2,506,122.

A report for Fairview, in Major County, showed a 1 percent decrease in sales tax revenue and a decrease of $35,723 in net taxable sales.

In Watonga, located in Blaine County, there was a 6.8 percent decrease in revenue. Net taxable sales were down $196,043.

Reports for Kingfisher, located in Kingfisher County, showed there was a 5.8 percent decrease in sales tax revenue. Net taxable sales were down $508,795.
