Lawmaker Enns will seek re-election

ENID, Okla. — Enid legislator John Enns will campaign for a fifth term in the Oklahoma House, he announced this week.

“It is an honor to represent the voters of District 41 at the state Capitol. I am very pleased with the direction our state is headed. There is still much to be done, so I am announcing my intent to run for re-election as state representative,” Enns said in an announcement Wednesday.

Enns represents House District 41, a rural district that includes parts of Enid and Oklahoma City, Bison, Carrier, Drummond, Hillsdale, Lahoma, Piedmont and Waukomis.

“I am truly grateful to the people of District 41 for giving me the opportunity to serve them. It has been a remarkably rewarding experience. I have worked to bring our common sense conservative values to the state Capitol, and while progress has been made, there is much more that needs to be done. Our children’s futures will be set by their quality of education,” Enns said. “Since my wife, Charla, is a teacher and as a past teacher myself, I understand the priority education takes. I believe we must continue to fight for common sense education reform. In addition, I have worked hard to maintain the high levels of public safety the people expect and deserve, and to ensure that the interests of the citizens are well represented in all matters.

“With the retirement of several of our areas’ longtime leaders, it is more important than ever that we have a strong voice at the state Capitol. I have the experience and understanding of the Legislature that can continue to make sure our voices are heard.”

Longtime northwest Oklahoma Rep. Dale DeWitt of nearby District 38 cannot run again because of term limits. Another Enid legislator, Rep. Mike Jackson, is stepping down after a decade in the House.

Enns is the vice chairman of the CareerTech appropriations subcommittee.

He has a bachelor of arts degree in natural science from Tabor College and has master’s degree work in education. He is a farmer and rancher.
