Saville Center asks donors to sponsor a child

STILLWATER, Okla. — The Saville Center is seeking donors for its Sponsor-A-Child Program in April, which is Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month.

The Saville Center provides a place where those involved in investigating reports of child abuse can work together. In the past 10 years, the center’s staff has provided forensic interviews for more than 650 children.

The Sponsor-A-Child Program provides the center support to ensure that victim advocate services are provided throughout the interview process. Funding also supports:

• The physical facility including utilities and furnishings.

• Educational packets for the caregivers of abused children.

• Contracting with forensic interview specialists.

• Recording equipment required during the interview process.

• Mental health referrals and in some cases covering the cost of therapy.

• Providing children snacks and drinks (or even sometimes a meal) during their visit to the Saville Center.

The cost to Sponsor-A-Child through the Saville Center services is between $300 and $500 per child, which does not include the cost of training offered to the multidisciplinary team, the costs involved with weekly case review or the cost of outreach and prevention programs.

The Saville Center will also raise money this month at its Denim and Diamonds event Friday at the O-Club in Oklahoma State University Gallagher-Iba Arena.

Businesses and individuals can Sponsor-A-Child by calling 405-377 5670 or e-mailing saville@savillecenter.org.
