Botanical Garden 3-7-10

STILLWATER, Okla. — Although it hasn’t felt much like it in recent weeks, according to the calendar, gardening season is upon us.

Actually, for the ambassadors and the OSU Botanical Garden staff we’re starting a month later than usual. Our first meeting for the new gardening season is usually near the end of January, but that meeting was canceled because of snow, so we met on the last Friday in February and are anxious to get busy in the garden.

We had a packed house for the meeting with most of last year’s ambassadors back as well as a new group of around 15 who will be recognized in next week’s article. There’s a lot going on at the gardens so it an exciting time to be an ambassador and to be a part of our beautiful garden.

After introducing ourselves to our new ambassador colleagues and them to us we had our monthly business meeting, when several projects to be worked on this year were presented and discussed. These will be written about in future articles.

Also, Steve Miller and other members of the publicity committee have put together a nice PowerPoint presentation about the garden, so if you’re a member of a civic organization, church group or other group interested in a presentation about the garden for your group please contact Laura Payne at 405-744-4531 or Stephanie Larimer at 405-744-5404, and they will work with you to set up a time.

This year is going to be a very exciting year at the garden so we hope you will make plans to visit early and often.

Larry Jones is an ambassador at the Oklahoma State University Botanical Gardens.
