STILLWATER, Okla. — In July 2007, Steve Owens, the host of the very successful “Oklahoma Gardening” TV show at that time, made the decision to step down from that position and go into private business.

His involvement with the botanical garden and the TV show for more than a decade made it a difficult decision. Soon thereafter, Steve and his wife, Ruth, opened a specialty plant nursery south of Stillwater, which they called Bustani Plant Farm. The variety of beautiful specialty plants one finds in their nursery today, only about three years after they opened, is amazing.

This past week I received a copy of their fall newsletter with some very impressive news. Earlier this year they set up a display at garden shows in Oklahoma City, Tulsa and Little Rock, Ark. Their display at the 2010 Greater Tulsa Home and Garden Show received the second place award.

In the same newsletter was an article reporting on shipments from the Bustani Plant Farm to the Wave Hill Garden in New York City, the Chicago Botanical Garden, the Atlanta Botanical Garden, the Indianapolis Museum of Art, the New Orleans Botanical Garden, Chanticlear Garden near Philadelphia and the U.S. Botanical Garden in Washington, D.C., which was their largest order to date.

Steve and Ruth, we congratulate the two of you and thank you for providing plants from Stillwater to these impressive gardens. What a fantastic start for your new nursery!
