UPDATED: Father, son plead in throat slashing case

Son sentenced to 40 years in prison; dad draws 25

PERRY, Okla. —  A Tryon man accused of slashing the throat of a man he met along The Strip in Stillwater pleaded guilty this morning to charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon with intent to kill, robbery and conspiracy after former felony convictions.

His father pleaded no contest to the same charges and was sentenced to 25 years in prison on each count, with sentences to run concurrently. Aaron Ellis was sentenced Thursday to 40 years in prison on each count, with the sentences to run concurrently.

Ellis, 24, and Howard Gashwazra, 41, both of Tryon, were accused of slitting Jason Leroy Wells’ throat at Lake McMurtry last September, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

Ellis and Gashwazra met Wells near the bars along Washington Street in Stillwater and invited him to the lake to drink beer and smoke cigarettes, the affidavit reads.

Wells was found the next morning near a boat dock with his throat slashed and his back stabbed. Wells was hospitalized.

Gashwazra told police he didn’t stop his son from committing the crimes because he is afraid of him.
