Four ward three residents seek seat on the Stillwater Board of Education
STILLWATER, Okla. — Four applicants are seeking the ward three seat on the Stillwater Board of Education. Interviews for the position will take place within a month.
Candidates seeking appointment include Stacy Bauter, 2206 N. Burdick St.; Micah Sexton, 2124 N. Glenwood Drive; and Debra Vincent, 1622 N. Glenwood Drive.
Board of Education Secretary Annette Jones said a fourth resident didn't want his name released to the public.
Stacy Bauter said she applied because it would be a good opportunity to be more involved and support the community. It is an idea she has been thinking about for the past few years.
“I feel I would bring a unique perspective,” said Bauter, whose son Jacob is in sixth-grade. “I am a single parent and my son has disabilities. That is a perspective that I have not noticed on the board in a long time.”
Vincent, whose daughter Grace is in fifth-grade, said she would also bring a unique perspective to the board if appointed.
“I am an attorney and I work a lot with disadvantaged youth, abused and neglected kids as well as delinquent kids,” Vincent said. “I feel that gives me a perspective that a lot of people do not have.”
Sexton said he would bring a combination of things to the board. He said he has worked with the Stillwater Board of Education previously as an attorney.
He said the experience gave him more knowledge about the school board and his legal background would help him serve if he is elected.
Sexton said he would also bring an additional perspective to the board through his daughter’s past educational experience. She was homeschooled before attending Sunnybrook Christian School.
Ward three residents had until Friday to submit applications for the open seat. Craig Carter resigned because he was moving out of the ward.
