Oklahoma State University student shows off her 'Mad Men' style in contest

STILLWATER, Okla. — An Oklahoma State University upcoming senior wants Oklahomans to vote for her in the “‘Mad Men’ Casting Call.”

Valerie Hill, who will be a senior this fall, entered the television show’s contest “to show the rest of America that Oklahoma shouldn’t be overlooked for style and culture.”

The Oklahoma City native moved to Stillwater to attend OSU, where she is studying English with an option in creative writing. She began watching AMC’s “Mad Men” a few months ago, she said, and quickly became a fan of the show about an advertising agency in the early 1960s.

She’s dressed in vintage-style clothing since her senior year of high school, she said, so when she read about the contest, she thought it made sense to enter.

Contest entrants submit photos of themselves in 1960s-style clothing and hairstyles, and the public votes on the photos. The show’s creator and executive producer, Matthew Weiner, will review the top 20 photos and pick the winner, who will get a walk-on role on a “Mad Men” episode, according to the contest website.

Hill’s entry can be seen at http://madmencastingcall.amctv.com/browse/detail/Z5LT8Z.

After graduation from OSU, Hill said she plans to attend music school in Oklahoma City to study music production. She hopes to build a career as a songwriter or music engineer or producer, she said.
