Stillwater Farmers' Market 1-20-10

STILLWATER, Okla. — Stillwater Farmers’ Market is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays with fresh locally grown produce, meats, cheese and handmade breads and Santa Fe-style food.

Produce in season includes gourds, greens, fresh herbs, lettuce, pumpkins, spinach, squash and turnips. In addition, shoppers can find bird suet, windowsill herbs and freshly made salsa, enchiladas and tamales. Buffalo meat is available on the first and third Saturdays of each month.

The winter market is located inside Cowboy Mall at Hall of Fame and Monroe and is open unless the streets are icy.

Baked Turnips

4 large turnips peeled and quartered

2 tablespoons butter

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 teaspoon rosemary finely chopped

1/2 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped

Preheat oven 375 degrees.

In small bowl, mix butter and oil together. Place turnips in a zip-close bag and pour in butter oil mix. Close bag and work bag so turnips get covered with butter mix. Pour into ovenproof baking dish and sprinkle with salt, pepper and rosemary.

Bake for 30 minutes. Sprinkle parsley over top and turn turnips over. Continue to bake for an additional 20 minutes or until fork tender.

Serves 4
