STILLWATER, Okla. — The Made in Oklahoma Coalition offers the following recipe for barbecue bison burger just in time for Independence Day. This recipe is included in MIO’s “Tastefully Oklahoma” cookbook, along with other recipes featuring Made in Oklahoma products.
Barbecue Bison Burger
1 pound of ground bison
1 half cup of Head Country Garden Rich salsa
2 tablespoons of Head Country premium marinade
1 tablespoon of Head Country all-purpose seasoning
1 package buns
Build medium hardwood charcoal fire. Allow fire to burn off lighter fluid smell. Heat cooking chamber for a minimum of 30 minutes.
In large bowl, combine first five ingredients and mix together. Form patties.
Place sheet of foil on grill. Place patties on foil and cook for 15 minutes. Remove foil and cook patties for an additional 5-10 minutes, being careful not to overcook.
Using meat thermometer, check internal temperature. It should be 150 degrees for medium rare and 160 degrees for medium.
Remove patties from grill, and serve.
