Quarterfinal run fuels returning Wildcats for 2014

RINGLING, Okla. — The Morrison Wildcats’ playoff run may be over but winning 11 games and returning to the state quarterfinals will give returning players motivation to come back in 2014.

“We all did really good to get the spot we did,” junior Travis Dunn said. “Ringling was a tough team and I can see them going far. We came in and put up a fight.”

Ringling defeated Morrison 48-8 to end the Wildcats’ run that yielded a trip to the quarterfinals for the first time since reaching the state semifinals in 2010. Dunn said he thinks the program put itself back on the map after suffering losses in the second round the two prior seasons.

“Morrison is a program with a lot of pride,” Dunn said. “We came out and played as hard as we could.”

While the Wildcats will lose quality seniors like Scotty Van Dorn, Justin Bearry, Brent Coleman, Andrew Polasek and Joshua Hite, it returns several key players. Coach Cory Bales said he is excited about that.

“I’m really proud of how the young kids played,” Bales said. “I’m really happy for the seniors to get to this level here and finish their playing time at Morrison.”

One of the players returning is sophomore quarterback Jordan Quinata. He said the loss allowed Morrison to see what it has to do to reach that level.

“They are a really good team,” Quinata said of Ringling. “It’s just going to make us better for next year. We need to get a lot more physical with our play.”

Having several of his key teammates back next season has Quinata fired up as he hopes to lead the Wildcats even further.

“It makes me want to work harder for next year,” Quinata said.

Dunn, who will be one of the seniors next year, is looking forward to leading the team.

“I can’t wait,” Dunn said. “It’s my senior year and I kind of want it to go slow. I can’t wait to get back on the field and make it farther.”
