Morrison's Josh Hite earns athlete of the week honor with no-hitter

STILLWATER, Okla. — One of the crowning achievements for a pitcher is throwing a no-hitter. On March 25, Morrison’s Josh Hite pulled off the feat with an 11-strikeout performance against Prue.

Hite said he was pleased with his performance but thought it could be better.

“It felt pretty good but I still walked two people,” Hite said.

With the Wildcats following the law of superstitions, no one told Hite about his gem until it was complete.

“I found out from my coach after the game,” Hite said.

Morrison’s pitcher followed that performance with a three-inning no-hitter in the Pioneer Tournament against Garber on March 30. Hite recorded all the outs with nine strikeouts. Coach Tim Hatter said Hite does a good job of mixing in the curve ball.

“He does a good job of mixing it in early in the count,” Hatter said. “It keeps people off balance.”

Hite agreed and added the fact that he is a left handed pitcher makes him more difficult to be hit.

“My curve comes out pretty good,” Hite said. “Being a left-handed pitcher, most batters aren’t use to a curve coming from that direction. It even throws off left-handed batters.”

Hite said his placement of pitches has been key to his success.

“I didn’t do a lot,” Hite said. “I’ve just working on different kinds of pitches.”

The Morrison pitcher said on occasion he watches Major League Baseball games and really likes the way San Francisco Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum pitches.

“I like how he is as a player,” Hite said. “He competes hard and throws a good slider. He has a lot of good stuff that usually works.”

The Wildcats enter today’s Coyle Tournament with an 8-11 record. Hite said he thinks the team can get better.

“We have a lot of new people getting in,” Hite said. “They are getting pretty good and I think we can make a run.”
