Ripley's Twoguns dominates inside in victory against Carney

CARNEY, Okla. — The Ripley Warriors played a physical game against the Carney Bulldogs in the post. Warriors junior post Houston Twoguns’ play down low helped the Warriors take control in a 52-28 victory Saturday.

“I feed off our bench and players on the court,” Twoguns said. “They kept me going and kept me strong.”

Twoguns got to the basket at will Saturday, scoring 16 points. When he missed shots, several times he was fouled and earned trips to the free-throw line. The junior made 4 of 7 free throws. Twoguns said he didn’t shy away from the aggressive play.

“(The referees) wouldn’t call anything,” Twoguns said. “We kept getting hacked. We just had to keep going and keep patience on it.”

When Carney tried to stop the Warriors’ inside game, Twoguns just passed the ball to open teammates — mostly, Noah Teel, who scored a game-high 18 points on six 3-pointers.

“Noah is a good shooter,” Twoguns said. “If he is open, he’s going to knock it down. Just keep him hot and keep the momentum going.”

Coach Doug Scott said Twoguns’ inside play and Teel’s outside play has been key to the boys’ success.

“Houston would score inside,” Scott said. “When they covered him up, we would get open shots. That’s what we want our offense to be — inside presence, outside presence. I thought Houston and Noah did a good job.”

Being a key player is nothing new for Twoguns as he is the ace pitcher on the baseball team. The junior said he just enjoys competing.

“I just like being out here with the fans and players,” Twoguns said. “It keeps me going and all that.”

Saturday’s victory was the fourth straight for the Warriors, which go into Christmas break with a 5-5 record.

“We are playing really smart right now,” Twoguns said.

Sheridan Richards, Ripley basketball

Richards couldn’t miss from 3-point territory Saturday, as she hit four in the first half and led the Lady Warriors in scoring during their victory over Carney.

Daniel Hood, Cushing wrestling

Hood dominated the competition at the Trey Colutta Invitational. The defending state champion went 8-0 in the 120-pound weight class and clinched the title

Drew Wilson, Cushing basketball

Wilson scored 25 points on Friday to help the Tigers pull out an overtime victory over Cleveland.

Ryon Boatright, Mulhall-Orlando basketball

Boatright scored 24 points to lead the Panthers in a rout of Carney on Friday.
