All-Area Spring Sports Girls MVP: Parker's scoring powers Lady Pioneers' run

STILLWATER, Okla. — Lauren Parker was a leader for the Stillwater Lady Pioneers soccer team. It wasn’t just by her contributions on the field but in her attitude that helped Stillwater reach the playoffs for the first time since 2003. The Stillwater News Press named her the Spring Sports Girls MVP.

“The season was a big roller coaster but it turned out for the best,” Parker said. “I’m blessed and wish I could have done more for my team.”

The Lady Pioneers began the season 0-10 and were shut out six times before turning things around and won three of their last four games — with their only loss being in the first round of the state playoffs. Parker said that was because of the team bond they shared.

“We relied on faith and our teammates,” Parker said. “We knew all we had to do was win the last three games and the early games wouldn’t matter.”

Parker was by far the offensive leader for the Lady Pioneers as she scored five goals, recorded eight assists and had 42 corner kicks. The senior earned All-State honors and will play in the All-State game Saturday in Muskogee.

“It’s a dream come true,” Parker said. “It’s pretty awesome and a big responsibility to represent Stillwater High. I hope I can do my best and help my All-State team win.”

The graduated senior was the coaches’ daughter but for Parker it was a blessing.

“I loved playing for my dad,” Parker said. “He was a great coach.”

Parker’s career will continue this fall at Oklahoma University of Science and Arts.

“I’m excited about starting college in the fall,” Parker said. “I report Aug. 9 and have already started summer workouts.”
