No. 12 Chandler Lions devour P-T

PERKINS, Okla. — Sometimes the ball just doesn’t bounce your way. Tuesday was one of those days forPerkins-Tryon, as the Demons committed three errors and couldn’t get timely hits in a 4-0 loss to the No. 12 Chandler Lions in Perkins.

“That’s been our story a lot of times this year,” coach Kevin Miner said. “We don’t make our own breaks either. We didn’t do anything to win that game either. If we took advantage of our opportunities we could have been right in the middle of that game.”

Chandler (20-10) grabbed the lead in the third inning. Nicholas Rozell and Jaren Green reached with singles. Marcus Washburn reached when P-T’s shortstop Shelby Reese was unable to make a throw — resulting in an error and bases-loaded situation. Reese got an out on the next play when he threw to third but Rozell came home to give the Lions a 1-0 lead. Chandler brought home two more runs on infield singles. Reese committed two more errors later in the game for a total of three.

At the plate, the Demons weren’t able to string hits together. In the third inning, Reed Aldridge and Brady Davis singled with one out. The threat ended when Dillon Longbrake grounded into a fielder’s choice and Reese flied out. Alex Dougan led off the next inning with a double. Braydn Littau, who ran for him was thrown out at third.

“We need to get better at being clutch hitters,” Miner said. “We need to handle pressure and find ways to generate runs.”

Brady Dougan took the loss for Demons. In six innings he surrendered three runs on five hits, walked three, hit a batter and struck out two. Justin O’Laughlin got the win for the Lions, only allowing six hits.

The Demons (14-13) have a quick turnaround as they host Highway 33 rival Cushing at 5 p.m. Thursday. P-T won 2-1 at Cushing on April 18.
