Lady Warriors start fast, rout Lady Bluejackets in Court of Dreams game

OKLAHOMA CITY — The Coyle Lady Bluejackets and the Ripley Lady Warriors took part in the Oklahoma City Thunder’s Court of Dreams Wednesday at Chesapeake Arena. Defensive pressure and timely shooting helped make the game a dream come true for the Lady Warriors in a 59-27 victory over Coyle.

“My girls started out strong,” Ripley coach Doug Scott said. “They played well. We got into a little foul trouble but overcame that. When we had to have a big basket someone stepped up and hit one.”

The Lady Bluejackets (2-1) had 10 turnovers in the first quarter, most of them turned into points for the Lady Warriors. Ripley hit four 3-pointers and jumped out to a double-digit lead. At the end of the quarter the Lady Warriors led 19-4.

“The freshmen came out of us tonight,” Coyle coach Tom Webb said. “We are going to have games where we didn’t come out very well. It was a team effort.”

Ripley point guard Wisper Lefthand said they took what Coyle gave them.

“We just moved the ball,” Lefthand said. “We kept our composure and stuff. We just kept our heads up.”

Lefthand said she thought the team played well defensively despite having trouble with fouls.

“We got them into foul trouble when we were in foul trouble,” Lefthand said. “We made them go left to right and they couldn’t do it.”

The Lady Bluejackets couldn’t get their deficit below 10 points with the closest being 12 in the third quarter. Webb said he wasn’t happy with how his team played.

“We didn’t do anything well,” Webb said. “We have more talent than we showed and there is no excuse for not being prepared to play.”

Ripley’s margin grew steadily in the second half. The Lady Warriors (4-0) ended any hope of a fourth quarter comeback by Coyle with a 14-0 run. Jaclyn McKnight and Kylie Ladd led the team in scoring with 20. Combined they hit seven 3-pointers. Coyle’s post Shilah Young led the team in scoring with 12. The Lady Warriors host Agra  Friday.
