Littell goes in 39th round of MLB First-Year Player Draft

STILLWATER, Okla. — A projected top 250 prospect by several Major League Baseball scouting websites, Stillwater High graduate Jon Littell fell far beyond the projections — nearly not even being taken in the 40-round MLB First-Year Player Draft.

The power hitting outfielder for the Pioneers was drafted in the 39th round by the Washington Nationals, with the 1,174 overall pick.

With the pick, Littell became the first SHS draft selection right out of high school since Brett Anderson in 2006, according to He became the fifth former Pioneer drafted right after graduation, along with Ryan Lindgren (2006), Matt Holliday (1998) and Josh Holliday (1995).

Littell, who hit cleanup for the Class 6A state champion Pioneers, had a .446 batting average with five home runs and 39 RBIs in his final year for Stillwater. The recent Stillwater High graduate was a 2013 Perfect Game All-American.

The Oklahoma State signee was considered the best prep prospect out of the state of Oklahoma, according to Baseball America, and the fourth-ranked outfielder in the senior class and 29th-ranked overall high school prospect, according to Perfect Game.

Several messages left for Littell Saturday night were not returned prior to press time.
