Piedmont, Ponca City and Putnam City North win Holt tournament openers

STILLWATER, Okla. — It was a successful night for Ponca City, putting up 11 runs against Enid to open play at the Brad Holt Memorial Tournament with an 11-2 victory. Ponca led 4-0 after the third inning and went on to score two more in the fourth and three in the seventh. Junior Austin Emmel and senior Joey Furber had doubles for the Wildcats. Enid scored on a home run by Junior Tanner Black and junior Braden Rogers batted in senior Matt Mills for the second run.

Piedmont 14, Enid 11

An action-filled game led to Enid’s second defeat on the opening day, falling to Piedmont 14-11. Both teams put seven runs on the board in the first inning, but Enid couldn’t match another seven spot scored by Piedmont in the third. Senior Brett Adams hit two doubles for Piedmont; senior Mitchell Sperle and Gabe Griffith also had doubles for Piedmont.

Putnam City North 2, Sand Springs 1

Putnam City North scored two runs off four hits, beating Sand Springs 2-1 with a run in the seventh inning. Junior Carson James hit a double in the fourth for PC North and senior Lane Ramsey had one in the seventh, batting in senior Sean Hinkle to score the final run. Sand Springs got on the board in the sixth with a run by senior Clay Watkins. Junior Heath Vann hit a double for the Sandites.
