MOORELAND, Okla. —
The Ripley Lady Warriors used the same strategy Thursday night against Mooreland they have used most of the season in the Class 2A Area I Regional in Mooreland.
A good dose of team defense led them to a 37-23 victory over the Lady Bearcats as the hosts were held to single-digit scoring for all four quarters for the second straight game.
“Our team defense was just great again tonight,” Ripley coach Doug Scott said. “We were able to prevent them from scoring much inside and also did an excellent job of getting a hand up in the perimeter shooters’ faces. Naomi Eslinger did a great job defensively and grabbed at least eight or nine rebounds. It was a great team defensive effort.”
Scott’s bunch was hot from the start as they knocked down six 3-pointers in the first half on the way to a 10-point lead by halftime. They held Mooreland to just 11 points in the second half while cooling off themselves, but they put the game away early in the fourth period.
Freshman Kylie Ladd led the Ripley scoring with 14 points, Jaclyn McKnight had nine and Naomi Eslinger totaled seven points and eight rebounds. Senior Anna Eslinger had three points but handled the ball well and handed out at least four assists.
Ripley improved to 26-2 and plays the winner of the Northeast-Wayne game at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Seiling High School.
