Lewis' strong post play helps Lady Tigers win Mannford Tournament

STILLWATER, Okla. — Most people would find averaging 24 points per game and 15 rebounds per game during a three-game tournament impressive. Cushing Lady Tigers’ post Che’ron Lewis would tell you differently.

“I could have played a lot better,” Lewis said. “I missed a lot of shots and could have finished better around the rim.”

Lewis is the Lady Tigers’ leading scorer this season and hopes to guide the team on a deep postseason run.

The senior post’s play earned her an All-Tournament selection at the Mannford Tournament. The Lady Tigers won the tournament to improve their record to 6-0. Coach Brad Crace said Lewis has a strong inside prescence.

“She’s so physical,” Crace said. “She helps us break the press. She’s our main inside prescence.”

Lewis said being a leader is a role she embraces along with her fellow seniors.

“It’s pretty good,” Lewis said. “Just to know I have the support of my teammates is a good thing. I enjoy playing for a good team.”

Crace said she is an unselfish player and is always motivated.

“She always lays it on the line for the team,” Crace said.

Lewis said that’s her style of play.

“I just do it,” Lewis said. “I just have to do what I need to carry the team.”

The senior’s humble leadership may come from her favorite player — Oklahoma City Thunder’s Kevin Durant.

“He is so humble,” Lewis said. “He speaks with such humbleness.”

Entering Friday’s game at Mannford, Lewis and the Lady Tigers hold a 7-0 record.
