Lady Pioneers rained out; Bales throws no-no against Coyle

The Stillwater Lady Pioneers softball team will have to wait to start the 2013 season as their game with the Broken Arrow Lady Tigers was rained out.

The game will be made up on Monday in Broken Arrow.

Bales tosses no-no in Morrison rout of Coyle

MORRISON — Coaches and players always envision how they want opening day to turn out. For coach Tim Hatter and the Morrison Lady Wildcats, Tuesday’s opening day went better than they could imagine as Jacey Bales threw a no-hitter in a 12-0 victory over the visiting Coyle Lady Bluejackets.

“It was a really good start for us,” Hatter said. “(Bales) is one of our juniors and is a high quality pitcher.”

Bales only walked one and struck out 11 in a game that only went four innings due to the 10-run mercy rule. At the plate, Bales helped her cause by reaching base in all three plate appearances and scored three runs with two stolen bases.

Also contributing offensively, was senior catcher Kalie Vernon, who went 3-for-3 with a double and five runs batted in. Sophomore Shana Walls went 4-for-4 with two runs batted in. Hatter said he was pleased with the start and hope the momentum continues.

“We jumped out early,” Hatter said. “Bales was dominant on the mound and it made it easy for our hitters to relax and get hits.”

Cushing halts Perry’s seventh-inning rally

PERRY — The Cushing Lady Tigers jumped out early and held off a late rally by the Lady Maroons in a 7-5 victory Tuesday.

“Perry is a very good and always well-coached team,” coach Chad Short said. “Going in and winning on their turf is very good for us. This is ony the second time in the last six years that we’ve done that.”

Cushing jumped out to a 4-0 lead and were up 7-2 entering the final inning. The Lady Maroons rallied with three runs but couldn’t even the score. Josie Hood was the winning pitcher. Leading the Lady Tigers’ offense was Mikaela Weaver, who went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in and Kayla Vasquez with a 1-for-3 performance and drove in two runs.
