Stillwater News Press names All-Area girls basketball team

STILLWATER, Okla. — The 2013-2014 girls’ basketball season is finished. Now its time to reflect on the year.

While some teams made deep postseason runs, others were forced to put up the basketballs until next season. Here are some of the girls basketball players that had solid seasons for their teams and were named to the News Press All-Area Girls Basketball Team.

First Team

Marissa Goodman, Sr., Frontier


Goodman led Frontier to the state semifinals. Goodman averaged 22 points, grabbed nine rebounds, and shot 67 percent from the floor. The senior also shot 82 percent from the free throw line. Goodman had 82 steals and 58 assists. She started on four state tournament teams.

Tyra Aska, So., Coyle

Aska led Coyle to the area consolation championship with 17.1 points a game, 8.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists a game. Aska blocked 14 shot attempts.

Bailey Wensler, Jr., Perkins-Tryon

Wensler helped P-T reach the area tournament this year. Wensler averaged 13.9 points and 5.9 rebounds per contest. Wensler shot 36.4 percent from 3-point range.

Chelsea Lazenby, Fr., Glencoe

Lazenby led Glencoe to the regional consolation finals this year. Lazenby put up 18.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 3.1 steals per game.

Lauren Stettnisch, Jr., Stillwater

Stettnisch was a force inside for the Lady Pioneers. Stettnisch averaged 13.9 points and 5.5 rebounds a game for the Lady Pioneers. Stettnisch shot 50 percent from the floor.
