Glencoe's Baker repeats state title in discus

MIDWEST CITY, Okla. —  Sophomore Jenny Baker was the lone represenative for Glencoe at the Class A state track meet. Friday she did her school proud as she repeated her state championship in the discus with a personal best of 133 feet.

“She would have won it with four of her throws today,” coach Stephen Castlebury said. “It was a dominating performance and we are very proud of her on being a back to back state champion.”

Baker’s throw was nearly 18 feet better than second place. The sophomore will compete in the discus on Saturday and try to defend her title.

The Lady Bluejackets won the state championship in the 800-meter relay with a time of 1:46.35 and finished 15th in the 3,200-meter relay. Alexis Challis finished 10th in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 13:55.63. Coyle also qualified for the 400-meter relay times. Coyle’s Tyra Aska qualified for the finals in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes — winning both preliminaries.

Frontier’s Thristan Young finished 15th in the long jump with a leap of 14 feet and 6.5 inches.

Class 2A

MIDWEST CITY — Morrison’s Kylie Tolbert finished fifth in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 13:37.89. The 3,200-meter relay team finished ninth with a time of 11:06.52.

Pawnee’s Jaelyn Jestes finished 10th in the discus with a throw of 34 feet and an inch. Jaycee Ardrey finished 12th in the high jump with a personal best of four feet and eight inches. Kamille Ellis qualified for the 300-meter hurdles finals on Saturday.

Class 3A

MOORE — Perry’s Kolby Mendenhall is in position to claim a couple state titles after winning the 100 and 200 meter dashes preliminaries. The Maroons finished 14th in the 800-meter relay and Brett Schovanec finished 17th in the long jump with a leap of 17 feet and five inches.

On the girls side, Natalie Williams qualified for the 200-meter dash. Dali Atchley finished 11th in the 3,200-meter run.

Perkins-Tryon’s Travis Cotton qualified for the 100 and 200-meter finals. The Demons qualified for the 400-meter relay finals and finished seventh in the 800-meter relay. The Lady Demons finished 14th in the 3,200-meter relay.

Class 4A

MOORE — Cushing’s Hunter Boykin is in good postion in the 100-meter dash finals as he finished second in the preliminaries. Hannah Burris finished seventh in the high jump, clearing the bar at five feet and two inches. Paul Giddeon finished 16th in the 3,200-meter run.
