Area teams look to improve position at regionals in district tournaments

STILLWATER, Okla. — Some teams will look to improve their position at regionals while others are looking to get there as districts begin for Class 2A-4A on Friday.

The Pawnee Black Bears (17-4), who are ranked No. 6 in Class 2A, earned a bye and will face the winner of Barnsdall (5-11) and Foyil (12-10) in the district championship at 8 p.m. Saturday at Pawnee High School.

The Perkins-Tryon Lady Demons (13-4), who are ranked No. 12 in Class 3A, will face Chisholm (15-8) at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in Perkins-Tryon Gymnasium. Coach Jerry Burnett said it will be a challenging match.

“They are big,” Burnett said. “They have five or six losses, all to ranked teams. We will have to play really well to win.”

The Ripley Lady Warriors (18-6), who are ranked No. 13 in Class 2A, will face the winner of Dove Science and Drumright (5-11) at 6:30 p.m. Saturday for the district championship on their home floor. The Warriors (14-10) will play at 8 p.m. Saturday. The Drumright boys are 8-14.

The Perkins-Tryon Demons (14-3), who are ranked No. 14 in Class 3A, will get to enjoy the comforts of home for their district championship against Chisholm. Coach Norman Tippeconnie said his team will need a solid game.

“They are a really good shooting team,” Tippeconnie said. “I think our defense will have to be up on the perimeter.”

The Yale Bulldogs (18-4), who are ranked No. 14 in Class 2A, will face the winner of Stroud (8-10) and Rejoice Christian (13-8) at 8 p.m. Saturday for the district championship.

The Lady Black Bears (10-11) will play for the district championship at 6:30 p.m. Saturday against the winner of Foyil (2-16) and Barnsdall (12-9). Coach Chad Tsotigh said Barnsdall is well-coached.

The Morrison Lady Wildcats (13-8) look to build on their winning streak and keep their season alive as they face Wellston (10-11) at Millwood at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Morrison has won its last 10 games and will face Class 2A No. 1 Millwood (17-3) at 6:30 p.m. Saturday for the district championship with a win Friday. The Wildcats face Wellston at 8 p.m. Friday at Millwood. If Morrison wins, it will face Class 2A No. 1 Millwood (16-5) at 8 p.m. Saturday for the district championship.

The Cushing Tigers (8-11) visit Mount Saint Mary (6-17) at 8 p.m. Saturday for a Class 4A district championship. The Tigers are on a five-game losing streak. The Lady Tigers (6-14) also face Mount Saint Mary (18-5), who is ranked No. 6  at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

The Perry Lady Maroons (8-14) visit Class 3A No. 7 Beggs (21-1) at 6:30 p.m. Saturday for the district championship. The Maroons (6-15) play Beggs at 8 p.m. Saturday.

The Yale Lady Bulldogs (4-17) look to keep their season alive at 6:30 p.m. Friday against Rejoice Christian (7-13). If Yale wins it will play Stroud (15-4) at 6:30 p.m. Saturday for the district championship.
