Glencoe baseball wins Chisholm Trail Invitational

ENID, Okla. — The basketball team isn’t the only one adding trophies to the trophy case at Glencoe High School.

The Glencoe baseball team won its sixth game in a row as it captured the Chisholm Trail Invitational championship with a 9-7 win over Pioneer Saturday.

Taylor Cavett struck out nine and allowed seven hits and three walks, while Nate Melton went 4-for-4 with four runs to lead the Panthers (12-7) past Pioneer.

Cavett also went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs, while Jake Lazenby went 1-for-1 with three walks and two RBIs. Clayton Beaver and Ty Lazenby each went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, as well.

The Panthers went 4-0 in pool play, including Melton’s no-hitter against Drummond Friday as Glencoe beat the Bulldogs 3-0 by scoring three runs in the top of the eighth. Melton finished with 14 strikeouts and three walks to get the win.

Glencoe beat Pioneer JV 9-0 and Pond Creek-Hunter 11-6 before topping Garber 11-4 over the weekend.
