Pawnee softball routs Tonkawa; Frontier swept in Ripley Tournament

TONKAWA, Okla. —

The Pawnee Lady Black Bears scored early and often in a 16-3 rout over Tonkawa/Deer Creek-Lamont Thursday.

Both teams will meet again Wednesday for the district tournament. Pawnee coach Chad Tsotigh said his team played well.

“(My coaching staff) told them to go out and take care of business,” Tsotigh said. “They did a good job of staying focused.”

Hailey VanDeventer picked up the victory to improve to 1-1. VanDeventer gave up seven hits, one walk and struck out three. Chrissie Collins led the Lady Black Bears offensively with two hits, including a three-run home run. Tori Stevens hit a triple and reached base twice on walks. Larra Tesertiller hit a double and drove in three runs. Kamille Ellis hit a pinch-hit single.

The Lady Black Bears (18-12) will host a three-way Monday with Cushing and Pawhuska with the first game at 3:30 p.m.

Frontier swept in Ripley Tournament

RIPLEY — The Frontier Mustangs competed well but were eliminated in the Maverick Mini Mart Classic with a 15-7 loss to Shidler and an 18-2 loss to Drummond.

“We just made too many mistakes as the games went on,” Frontier coach Mike Allen said. “I thought we pitched well.”

In the first game, the Mustangs held a 7-5 lead on Class B No. 20 Shidler in the fifth inning but defensive mistakes cost them the win. Brett Kincannon took the loss but was a key contributor offensively with a pair of hits and a couple runs. Talon Harris also went 2 for 3 and drove in runs.

Allen said the Mustangs competed well in the second game and were only trailing 5-2 in the fifth before Class A No. 18 Drummond’s bats came alive.

“We made a couple of mistakes and they lit us up,” Allen said. “In a matter of 10 minutes it went from being 5-2 to 15-2.”
