Wildcats rush past Yale

(Continued)

YALE, Okla. —

The Wildcats finished the game with 349 yards rushing compared to 227 total yards for Yale’s offense. Morrison’s defense pitched its second straight shutout. Last week, the Wildcats shut out Hominy. In the second half, Morrison had three takeaways for four total. Parker Venus and Andrew Polasek intercepted passes to go along with Van Dorn’s fumble recovery.

“We played great defensively,” Bales said. “We bent but didn’t break.”

The defenses were dominant in the first half. The Bulldogs drove into Morrison territory three times in the first half. None of those drives yielded points. On the first possession after a Morrison fumble, Yale drove to the Morrison 44. Two false start penalties and an illegal forward pass penalty stalled the drive. The Bulldogs got down to the Morrison 31 but JR Wakely’s pass was intercepted at the Yale 10 by Morrison’s Scotty Van Dorn. Toward the end of the first half, Yale drove inside the Morrison 10 but couldn’t convert a fourth down.

“That was a big letdown for us,” Ellis said. “We were trying to get one more first down and score and just couldn’t do it.”

Most of the Wildcats’ 215 yards in the first half were on three plays. Jordan Quinata ran for a 67-yard touchdown and converted the two-point conversion to give Morrison an 8-0 lead in the first quarter. In the second, Quinata converted a third-and-10 with a 27-yard pass to Justin Bearry to the Yale 30. Van Dorn scored on a 21-yard run to cap the Wildcats scoring for the first half. The Wildcats other drives ended in a fumble, punt and the end of the half.

Yale (3-3, 1-2) visits Kiefer at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Morrison hosts Drumright at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
