Hubble's defensive touchdown lifts Cushing over Perkins-Tryon

STILLWATER, Okla. — There is nothing a defensive player enjoys more than scoring a touchdown. On Oct. 25, Cushing defensive end Trevor Hubble got that experience as he took a fumble 85 yards for a touchdown in the Tigers 34-0 victory over the Perkins-Tryon Demons.

“I was looking forward to doing that all season,” Hubble said. “I set a goal to score a defensive touchdown. I have never scored a touchdown in my high school career. I was just trying to make a play and ended up knocking the ball out and picked it up and scored.”

Hubble’s score was a huge momentum changer as the Demons were inside Cushing’s 20 and trailing 14-0. The senior said getting a shutout was huge especially against their rival.

“All week we talked about being physical to stopping their run,” Hubble said. “It was amazing, especially against Perkins. It was our third shutout of the season.”

Hubble said the Tigers success on defense has been due to their playing experience.

“Last season we were a young defense,” Hubble said. “This year we have a lot of chemistry. I know each one of us will do our job. We are going to be physical and make plays.”

Hubble said it’s been fun being a leader on defense and someone younger players can look up to.

“We have a great defense,” Hubble said. “A lot of people are stepping up. It makes it fun being a leader on the defense.”

On Friday night, Hubble hopes his undefeated Tigers can continue making plays as it visits the Seminole Chieftains for the district title.

“They have a good football team,” Hubble said. “Their offense has been dominant all season. I think our defense can dominant their offense. It’s going to be a great game.”

Hubble hopes his football playing days don’t end in high school but continue into college.
