Morrison hungry for another district title after romp of Barnsdall

MORRISON, Okla. — The Morrison Wildcats took care of business against the Barnsdall Panthers, 50-16 on Thursday and are set up to play for the District 7-A championship in two weeks against Kiefer.

“It was over pretty quick,” coach Cory Bales said. “We returned the opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown and scored on our next four possessions to make it 40-0. We let the young guys play the last three quarters.”

Bales said his team had nice runs by freshman Jordan Quinata and junior Scott VanDorn. Thursday’s victory guaranteed the Wildcats at least one home playoff game. Morrison takes a break from its district schedule Friday as the Wildcats travel to Foyil. Coach said he likes where the game falls in the schedule.

“We can prepare a little for Kiefer and some for Foyil,” Bales said. “It gives us a chance to add new wrinkles and two weeks to prepare for that game (against Kiefer).”

Carney 56, Gracemont 6

CARNEY — The Bulldogs (4-4) didn’t allow the Lions (0-8) to pull an upset as they rolled to a 56-6 victory for their third win in a row, Thursday in Carney.

“It was a good night,” coach Mark Davis said. “In these last few games we are averaging 49 points and only giving up an average of 18.”

Davis said having his team at full strength has really helped the Bulldogs be successful.

“Those first four games, we were only at half strength,” Davis said. “If we were at full strength then our record would be different. Being at full strength allows us to do more as a team. I can call more defensive sets and have guys in there that know what they are doing.”

Carney will finish off its district schedule in the next two weeks and is in contention for the playoffs. After Thursday’s games, the Bulldogs are one game out of the final playoff spot.

“We’ve got Kremlin-Hillsdale next and they are 2-6,” Davis said. “We are rolling and playing pretty good ball right now. If we can win out, hopefully it will be enough to get us in the playoffs. It will give us a winning record which this school hasn’t experienced before.”

Welch 26, Agra 18

AGRA — The Bearcats’ playoff hopes took a severe hit as they lost to the Wildcats 26-18 Thursday in Agra.

The loss puts the Bearcats (4-4, 3-4) two games behind Welch, who now owns the head-to-head tiebreaker with two games left.

The Wildcats (5-3, 5-2) took an 8-0 lead with Casey Pendergraft scoring on a two-yard run and Tra Dodson converted the two-point conversion. Agra responded with a 14-yard touchdown pass from Drew McEntire to Tyler Rossiter. The run failed leaving the Bearcats trailing 8-6 at halftime.

Welch expanded its lead to 18-12 after the third. The Bearcats tied the game with an 88-yard fumble return by David Korn. Pendergraft scored his third touchdown to give the victory to the Wildcats.

Agra hosts Watts at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
