Stillwater baseball beats Bishop Kelley, will host regional tournament

TULSA, Okla. — Stillwater High baseball clinched a home regional with a 7-4 victory over Bishop Kelley on Monday in a game that had been postponed twice before.

“It’s been a grind on the kids ... and it’s taken some mental toughness,” SHS coach Tony Holt said.

The Pioneers were propelled by left-handed ace Carson Teel on a day Holt said the wind and ballpark favored the offense.

“The wind was blowing straight out to right field and was a tough day to pitch,” Holt said. “Carson still pitched well enough for us to get the win and we got some key hits from some guys.

“Taylor had a good day today, went 3 for 4 with four RBIs and hit a home run. Nate Joliff also hit a home run and two tremendous catches in center field.”

Though the Pioneers have clinched a host site for regional action, they still have to travel to Bartlesville Tuesday for a district game — which only affects things for Bartlesville.

The regional tournament will begin Thursday at Couch Park. Start times and opponents have yet to be determined.

“We play Monday and Tuesday and then the regional starts Thursday, so there’s nothing easy about it,” Holt said. “The mental preparation will be difficult this week, but we’re going to need it starting Thursday when the regional rolls around.”
