Ripley gets past Dover

RIPLEY, Okla. — Class A No. 13 ranked Ripley defended its homefield on Thursday against Class B No. 9 ranked Dover with an exciting victory.

Ripley and Dover went into the bottom of the seventh inning with a tie. The Warriors’ Garret Gosney started off the bottom half of the seventh with a double which hit the wall. Gosney stole third three pitches later. Chandler Salinas hit Gosney in for the RBI and the 4-3 victory.

Ripley threw four pitchers. Salenas started the game and acrewed six strikeouts. Cory Sadler stepped to the mound in the fourth inning and Gosney threw in the fifth. Houston Twoguns pitched the seventh and got the win.

Gosney went 2 for 4 and had two doubles at the plate. Salinas went 1 of 2 and also had a double.

Ripley (3-0) is coming off of a win against Class 4A Cleveland.

“We had a really good week,” Ripley coach Donnie Hoffman said.

Ripley will get back on the field against Class 2A’s No. 10 Calera on Monday.

Glencoe 3, Newkirk 2

GLENCOE — The Panthers scored three runs in the final inning to complete a comeback against Newkirk in Chad Speer’s first game as coach.

“We pitched well,” Speer said. “They scored their runs off of errors. We’ve only had two and a half days of practice and played well on defense. They didn’t give up and found a way to win.”

Sean Smith and Quentin Ash contributed two of the runs. Ty and Jake Lazenby also had base hits. Claytin Beaver started and pitched the first three innings. J.K. Hadlock finished the game and earned the win.

The Panthers host a 3-way with Cimarron and Pawnee starting at 2 p.m.

Cushing 1, Perry 0

OKLAHOMA CITY — The Tigers used good baserunning and pitching to down the Maroons at Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City.

“We had runners on first and third with two outs and we did a quick steal of home,” Cushing coach John Yates said.

Trevor Brandle scored the run. Kyler Patterson started for Cushing and earned the win. Cooper Skluzacek took the loss.
