MOORE, Okla. —
The Stillwater High girls basketball team upset No. 9 Muskogee 62-53 Saturday to win the Moore John Nobles Tournament.
"Its a great feeling," SHS coach Carl Treat said. "We played three totally different opponents here with different styles and were victorious in all three games. To beat a good team like Muskogee, one of the better teams in the eastern half of the state, is just a great feeling."
The two teams went back-and-forth with SHS holding a 30-25 lead at halftime, before Muskogee took a 40-39 lead into the fourth quarter. The Lady Pioneers (12-5) put together a 19-7 run over the first six minutes of the fourth to win the tournament title.
LaNesha Middleton scored 30 points in the contest and was named tournament MVP. Middleton reached the 1,000 point scoring mark for her career - the third player to do so in program history - and is now the third all-time leading scorer in Lady Pioneer history.
Junior point guard Austyn Iven scored 16 in the championship game and earned a spot on the all-tournament team. Callie Atkins and Blake Bulard chipped in with 6 each.
Stillwater will return to the court on Tuesday with a road game at Edmond North.
